Imagine a world without stress. Imagine a world where no-one is demanding anything from you. Imagine you are the happiest you could possibly be. Can you imagine all that? I hope so, because if you cannot, that is a sure sign that you require some “ME” time.
If you can imagine all those things, then you are probably doing a lot of self-care already, as you appreciate the importance of looking after self. You appreciate and understand why it is imperative to look after your own safety on an aeroplane before your child, because if something were to happen to you first (like you do not get enough oxygen), then you are of no help to your child.
Now, just very quickly think of all the things that have been building up over the past year, and specifically those things that have spilled over into this year. Can you picture them? Has your mood changed? Is the weight of the world sharing its burden on you right now? It’s so easy to get caught up in the woes of the world, the media, our networks and indeed our own families. Is it over-burdening, over-whelming, too much to bear?
And my question to you is simply: Compared to what?
How do you know this is good for you? Are you coping with all the stress a new year can bring? On top of all the left over trauma of 2011?
Now, bear with me here and really think about the following. Write them down so you can check on them at the end of this post:
Think about the best thing that happened to you last year. Think about your greatest achievement of 2011. Think about your biggest learning for 2011. Think about the relationships you nurtured in 2011, new and old. Think about the single happiest thing that happened in 2011.
Now, pat yourself on the back, schedule some “Me” time for every day this year and plan for great things to happen, because then they will. If you write them down, and say them loudly to yourself, then you are setting the tone for your year to come.
And if you are overwhelmed just now, still reeling from the effects of 2011 and the holiday period, read this inspiring blogpost on starting your year in February, not January
Happy New Year, and may 2012 bring you everything you plan for.

This month we are running with a great series of TOP 10 tips for your business survival for the traditional break, and on into the New Year.
TIP NO 10:
Be grateful for all your success and learning curves for 2010. There is no such thing as failure, just lessons to be learned from, and appropriate measures to be taken to improve areas that require improvement.
Again, mind-maps come in really handy here, just draw out all your personal and professional successes for the year, and allow yourself to feel proud, be happy, and celebrate.
Christmas is a time of celebration and gratitude. Decide to go into 2011 with a positive attitude for your business, and endeavour to make little changes to the way you do things, just to shake things up a bit. Repetition becomes monotonous, safe, comfortable and can hold you back. Push yourself next year to be the best you can possibly be in your business.
Have a great holiday, a peaceful break, and a very Happy New Year!

TIP NO 9:
S ~ SILENCE
OK, so you are still running around like mad, trying to get everything done. So you promised yourself. So what! There is not a chance on this universe that if you keep going 90 miles an hour, you can suddenly stop at 5pm on Christmas Eve (unless you are the road runner of course). And by 5pm on Dec 24th, it’s too late anyhow, you have missed the buzz and joy around the place.
So it really is now, time to wind down, wind up those chores, push all unnecessary tasks out until 2011, send off your Happy Christmas email and make a conscious decision to stop working.
it’s up to yourself, but unless your business is traffic reporting or weather reporting, you really have no business to keep the vigil on Social Media over the holidays, checking emails.
The time should be spent doing different things for your business, like thinking about potential blogposts, thinking about your business for 2011, making notes.
Someone said recently, a solution to a problem came to them while they were vacuuming (OK, not very quiet, but it worked), he was quite surprised how a mundane job could inspire such creativity.
It did simply because he stopped focusing on the problem, ever experienced that? Then make it a habit, allow yourself time away from your business to work ON your business. It will thank you for it!
Be kind to yourself and your business, and come back tomorrow for our FINAL Step of CHRISTMAS TIPS for your Business (and of course I have it prepared already, because by then, I will be on holidays).

TIP NO 8:
A ~ ACTION
Or lack thereof!
There are 4 sleeps to Christmas. How much have you left to do? Enough to take 10 working days? Are things feeling a little pressured right now? OK, then it’s time for the Seefin Stripper!
Take out a piece of paper.
Either as a Mind-Map or a Matrix, we are going to reduce and prioritise our tasks (TO-DO List).

TIP NO 7:
M ~ MANAGEMENT
I am not talking business management or people management here, but SELF-MANAGEMENT!
Here’s a thought:
You cannot respect another until you respect yourself. Agree? OK, here’s another:
You cannot love another until you love yourself. Agree? Some won’t agree with this statement. Try this one:
You cannot parent a child until you can parent yourself. Parents will understand this. So what about business? Here we go:
You cannot manage a team until you can manage yourself. What do you think? If you are lacking in self belief and self confidence, how do you think you will manage a team?
So we are now on the subject of self-management. What does that mean for you? Read the rest of this entry »

TIP NO 6:
T ~ TEDICATION
Ok, so it’s not really a word, but it comes from dedication, with a TED spin-off. We get our inspiration from many sources: books, DVDs, TED Videos, colleagues, celebrities, our customers. However, most importantly is that we inspire ourselves. Without self-inspiration, everything else is just influence. And if you strip away everyone and everything, would you feel comfortable enough in your own skin, running your business?

TIP NO 5:
S ~ SOCIAL MEDIA
Get talking, get into the conversation. Why is Social Media so important for your business? Simply because:
- It is another way to communicate your message
- It is another medium to use to connect with your customers
- It is another medium to use to connect with future customers
- It is evolving into a sophisticated online communications protocol
If you do not get involved now, you will struggle to understand the next phase of the Web – the Semantic Web.
That’s not to say that every business type will benefit from Social Media, but not only is it an excellent tool for B2C (Business to Customer) but also growing in popularity for B2B (Business to Business).

TIP NO 4:
I ~ INSIGHT
IN PEACE, PREPARE FOR WAR
IN WAR, PREPARE FOR PEACE
SUN TZU
This very simple message was missed by many during the boom decade of 1996–2006. Those in business must realise the importance of vision, enthusiasm and planning.
Yet many of us fail to visualise where our business will be in 5 years, and allow external factors to guide us. The problem right there is if we allow economic, political or other external factors to guide our business, then we fall when those factors fall. Read the rest of this entry »
